Embarrassing Moment
It all happened in the year 2019. It was the time of Deewali Festival. I felt excited to meet my family members after a long period. I live in Bengaluru, with Swetha for my job purposes. Travelling back to my home town Bengaluru from Chennai is time-consuming and needs a great deal of preparation. Swetha, my wife was with me this time. She is a kannada girl whom I married in the same year. It was her first time observing this festival from close. She always breathed her interest in knowing tamil cultures. She loved to spend time with my family and friends.
So, we decided to spend a week in Chennai. We reached two days before the festival. ragavi , my sister was also joining us. I want to celebrate with my family . So, the whole family sit on the big verandah to chit-chat with each other. My wife expressed her concern to get to hear stories about my childhood days and my extended family. She asked lots of questions about our family and what I was like while growing up.
Ragavi, my sister, was always the troublemaker in the family. She is elder than me. Growing up she was always jealous of me because of all the attention I got from my mother. Everyone always passed on comments that my sisters carried my father’s side of the family. I was blessed with my mom’s feminine features.
The biggest problem was that ragavi was very outspoken. She never learnt how to keep a secret in the closet. She took the chance to tell Swetha about our childhood and some things about me I wanted to be kept secret. ragavi chuckled and published to her how I used to dress up in her clothes growing up, and how everyone treated me like one of the girls. Of course, she didn’t stop there. She explained that I was wearing her clothes so often that mom someday bought me my very own dresses so that I could stop wearing my sister’s. She even went on to explain to her how I spent most of my time dressing as a girl instead of playing cricket like all the other boys in the neighbourhood. She explained that I was dressed as a girl so often that the family just treated me like all the other girls in the family. The whole neighbourhood came to accept me as her sister as nobody paid any attention to my dress.
After everyone had a decent laugh, ragavi gave my wife a thoughtful look and asked, “Does he still dress in women’s clothes around the house?”
Everyone suddenly looked over at Swetha and paused for an answer. I could see how uneasy she was as she finally spoke up, “Umm… no, this is the first time I’ve heard about that side of Vicky. He’s never even given rise to it up and it was just a kid phase…”
What! Kid’s phase?” ragavi burst out laughing.
My wife got perplexed as ragavi continued, “Well, you won’t believe he was dressing up as one of the girls until he was in before marriage. It was normal to come home and see him in a churidar or salwar suit. To be honest, Mom was right about him being prettier than me, and I have to admit that he presented as perfectly feminine and looked pretty like a girl.” ragavi wished to let out more but my mom punched her in the arm telling her to stop.
I was so embarrassed as I sat there with the entire family but already they know about but still I felt very bad. Mom shifted the topic to my childhood and told stories about the family, but I could see that my wife was in deep thought, thinking about the things my sister exposed about me. I was hurt and anxious to hear what my darling thought about the chatter. after we went our room and she want to know about my story but I don't know what to do so I explained my self.
